What We Expect

We are willing to partner with each person who desires to grow spiritually, but that growth is expected to lead to a maturity that produces personal

responsibility and accountability for one's own spiritual growth.  Part of that growth toward maturity involves engaging in the classic spiritual disciplines

of reading and learning from scripture, prayer time, and solitude, resulting in a life characterized by:

- Relying on Christ alone for your salvation and that through Christ you have been granted forgiveness of your sins.

- Seeking close connection with Christ by reading the Bible and praying regularly.

- Living as to bring honor to Christ, and to witness in your own way about what Christ means to you.

- Faithfully attending the services of public worship and to partake regularly of the Lord's Supper.

- Supporting the church with your prayers and being faithful in using your giftedness in service to His church and world.

- Being a faithful steward of your time, treasure, and talent; giving as God has blessed you.

Dwelling in the Word

This is a practice of the congregation where we read, either privately or with others, the passage used as the basis for Sunday's worship. The ancient

practice of Lectio Divino was practiced at one time by all Christians. It is a slow, contemplative praying of the Scriptures which enables the Bible, the

Word of God, to become a means of union with God. The art of lectio divino begins with cultivating the ability to listen deeply, to hear "with the ear of

our hearts". When we read the Scriptures we should try to imitate the prophet Elijah. We should allow ourselves to become women and men who are

able to listen for the still, small voice of God (1 Kings 19:12); the "faint murmuring sound" which is God's word for us,God's voice touching our heart.

This gentle listening is an "atunement" to the presence of God in that special part of God's creation which is the Scriptures. For more on Lectio Divino,

Community

God created us to be in relationship. However, the Metropolitan St. Louis area is a big, busy place. It is easy to get lost amidst the hustle of daily life

without having any real connection to other people. Christ's Church believes it is impossible to truly experience the Christian life in such isolation - we

need meaningful relationships with others to learn and walk the Christian life together.

From its earliest days, Christ's Church has sought to be a church of community groups. Our goal is that every person who calls Christ's Church home

would also be connected to a group where they can build relationships, study and serve together. Groups consist of 4-12 people that meet weekly or

bi-monthly in homes and other venues throughout the area. This is the primary way we build community as a church. We strongly encourage you to

find out more about joining a group today.

LTG - Life Transformation Group

.…is made up of 2-3 people of the same gender who meet weekly to discuss the Dwelling in the Word passage, to be accountable to each other

through the use of Life Questions, and to pray for each other’s needs and friends.

….is a way to grow spiritually by putting ourselves in position to learn from God and others in an environment of honesty, vulnerability, confidentiality

    and grace.

Small Groups

….typically meet once a week for about an hour and a half, usually 6-8 weeks in length.

….study often coincides with current sermon series.

….consist of 4 to 12 people and are not gender specific.

Becoming a Member

The process of joining Christ's Church involves two things:

1. Being a part of a New Connections Conversation held periodically by the staff. It is a 2 1/2 hour conversation to introduce what it means to be a

    member of Christ's Church.

2. Meeting with Elders to affirm one's faith in Christ and desire to partner with Christ's Church as we grow together.
